MSBA Annual Meeting 2024
Meet the Board Nominees
President: Beth Goodwin
Beth is the current President of Maine State Beekeepers. She lives in Wells with her husband Neil who does the ‘heavy lifting’ in the bee yard, a house bunny named Claire and an assortment of chickens. Beth is a retired special education teacher and uses that expertise to promote MSBA’s mission of education and outreach. In her eighth year of beekeeping, she does presentations on the importance of honey bees and other pollinators at schools, libraries, summer camps and community events. She is interested in serving another year as MSBA President to continue exploring ways to promote beekeeping education throughout Maine.
Vice President: Dick Vermeulen
Dick is a third year beekeeper living in Lincolnville. As a retired sailing catamaran designer, boat builder and avid woodworker, he enjoys the building of all bee related equipment. His apiary consists of one Langstroth, five 4-chamber insulated AZ hives and one 2-story AZ 5 frame nuc. He is a member and chairman of the MSBA Education Committee and event chairman of Knox-Lincoln County Beekeepers club. Dick is enrolled in the University of Montana Master Beekeeper online program and will be taking the master level course this spring. He will be establishing a teaching apiary at Merryspring Nature Center in Camden and working with The Riley School 7th and 8th graders to build, paint and manage new hives. He is looking forward to the next Bee Fest with more programs for new beekeepers and kids.
Treasurer: Keith Kettelhut
Keith is the past president of Cumberland County Beekeepers Association and current MSBA treasurer. He was named MSBA’s 2017 Beekeeper of the Year. A resident of Durham, he has been keeping bees for 13 years and runs 55 hives. Keith is an active member of the Swarm Team, and has been very involved with education and outreach with regard to honey bees and other flying insects. He is a satellite communications engineer working for WMTW TV-8, operating and maintaining their satellite truck. Keith is also a scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 109 in Lisbon Falls.
Secretary: Lynne Lincourt
Lynne lives in Springvale with her husband, Joe, daughter, son-in-law and grandson. A beekeeper since 2013, her first hive was a gift. Knowing nothing about bees, Lynne took classes, went to every open hive, worked at the local bee store and joined the York County Beekeepers Association, after serving as the club’s secretary for five years and now currently as Vice President. She took the Cornell Master Beekeeper course with two friends and passed the course in 2023. They teach a “Hands On” course and Lynne currently mentors a local couple who are first year beekeepers. Lynne works as a polling clerk for elections and while no longer working, she is eager to focus on the bees and try to win that elusive blue ribbon for extracted honey at EAS.
Director At Large: Alex Bradstreet
Alex is a Maine native and part time beekeeper in the midcoast, in his fifth year of beekeeping, and with his wife, Amy, slowly restoring Bradstreet Farm founded in 1799. He co-chairs the Waldo County Beekeepers, and has served on the MSBA board for three years. Alex works in IT, and has been using his professional background to help maintain the MSBA website.
Director At Large: David LeGloahec
David has been keeping bees for six years and helped write Gardiner’s beekeeping ordinance, which allows anyone to have honey bees anywhere in the municipality, dependent on lot size. He’s served as an MSBA at large director for three years and is a member of the education committee. A retired educator from Lewiston, David is also an active member of Kennebec Beekeepers Association where he serves as treasurer and teaches at KBA’s annual Bee School.
