The January 2019 meeting will be held on the 14th at 6:30 – 8:30 PM at the library in the Sanford Junior High School.
We are very excited to have Rachael Bonoan, Ph.D. as our guest speaker for January. Her talk will be “Why do honey bees like dirty water?” touching on honeybee nutrition and how to help them prepare for winter.
BIO: Rachael is a biologist passionate about insect pollinators, and has been keeping bees for 6 years. For her PhD research, Rachael studied thermoregulation, nutrition, foraging behavior, and behavioral immunity in honey bees. She is now a post-doctoral researcher at Tufts University and Washington State University studying the Puget blue butterfly, an at-risk butterfly found in Washington state (but she’ll return to bees soon!).
Outside of her research, Rachael teaches an undergraduate-level class on insect pollinators at Tufts University, she has given a TEDx talk on engaging children in science by encouraging curiosity, and she is past-President of the Boston Area Beekeepers Association.
