Bee School

WMBA Bee School 2013: This year’s school will begin on Wednesday, January 23, 2013.

The school will be held at the Region 9 Adult Learning Center at 377 River Rd on Route 2 in Mexico.  The first night we will have registration at 6:00 p.m.  On subsequent class nights 6:00 – 6:30 pm will be time for class set-up and discussion or questions and class presentations will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.  The school costs $40.00 (includes books).  Current members are welcome (encouraged!) to attend once 2013 dues are paid.

This is an abbreviated version of our school topics for this year:

1/23 – Overview of course, costs, apiary location/good neighbor relations
1/30 – Bee biology, races of bees, acquiring bees
2/6   – Beekeeping Equipment hands-on workshop
2/13  – The queen and re-queening, managing for gentle bees, pheromones
No class on February 20 – School vacation week
2/27 – Spring management/swarming, bee pasture/water sources
3/6   – Late summer management, preparing for winter
3/13  – Honey harvest, comb honey, home processing and using wax
3/20 – Bee pests and diseases
3/27  - Beekeeping tips/tool box/Q & A
4/3   – Installing Nucs and packages, feeding new hives
4/10 - Integrated Pest Management (IPM), bears and fences, other pests,
Planning for Open Hive dates – Q & A
No class on April 17 – School vacation week
4/24 – Advanced class TBD
5/1    – Advanced class TBD

Classes are held in the cafeteria at the Region 9 school.

Annual Dues for WMBA membership are are: $15 individual and $22.50 family.
