2011 American Honey Princess Allison Adams helps the WMBA ambassador beekeeping at the Fryeburg Fair.
We had a lot of interest in Bee Schools at the Fryeburg Fair this year. (Perhaps an opportunity for bee school in the Naples-Bridgeton- Fryeburg area!)
Allison Adams is the American Honey Princess this year. She did a terrific job speaking with people at the fair and was a great ambassador for beekeeping — very knowledgeable and well spoken. She is from Plano, Texas, and this was her first time in Maine. She had never had a whole lobster (just lobster tails at a restaurant) so of course we had to introduce her to Maine-style seafood — including steamed clams, Atlantic salmon and scallops. After basic instructions, she polished-off two whole lobsters — head to tail!
Members of the Western Maine Beekeepers Association (WMBA) took turns taking Allison to the fair and staffing the booth in the Garden Center. It was a very busy week, but a lot of fun.
Carol hosted the American Beekeeping Federation honey queen for the entire week, showing her a good time and helping her spread the good word about honey and bees. Thank you, Carol, for sharing your home and volunteering your time (and your husband’s as well).
