CCBA hosts open hives monthly from May-September. These provide a great opportunity for hands-on learning. Experienced beekeepers lead a guided inspection of a hive, demonstrating hive activities, splits, nuc making, mite treatment application and other essential tasks specific to the season. These are member-only events and we ask that you bring a veil. Directions to the host locations are sent out via Google group emails prior to the event. They usually begin at 10:00 AM.
Upcoming Open Hives:
September 14 Jonathan Mitschele New Gloucester at 10:00 AM. Topics will include, doing what you can to ensure your hives are ready for winter, even if you are not. Safe or sorry, when and why to combine hives. Determining mite levels when treating for mites with oxalic acid. Light weight beekeeping, and anything else I or those present think of. Master beekeepers highly encouraged to attend!
