Mid-Winter Gathering

The Aroostook County Beekeepers Association will be having a mid-winter meetng/instructional session. Meeting will be held in Presque Isle, Saturday, January 25th, 10:00 – 12:00 at the “Transformations” building.

The easiest way to get there is:
As you drive through Presque Isle’s main street, the movie theatre will be on your right (going North) on your Left (going South), take the street/parking lot across from the movie theatre heading towards the Riverside Restaurant, take a left, we will be in one of the last buildings.

Steve Miller will be our presenter and provide instruction as well as field questions asked. Our presenter has several years of experience and will provide a great deal of insight for seasoned and novice beekeepers.

Depending on the group and topics of discussion, we are in hopes to have this session spring board into additional sessions/classes. If the interest of the group is to continue having additonal sessions, the association will be looking for able body facilitators willing to take on some of those responsibilities.

Coffee & light snacks will be provided.
Looking forward to a good turnout from most I have spoken to

Spring-Time Greetings

Greetings to all you fellow beekeepers!  Spring is in the air.

Beekeepers that have wintered their bees, I hope they are all doing well. If you have monitored your hives and are low on feed, try a sugar block or winter patties; winter patties have provided some additional value to my hives development.

Our last get together was in November, with additional contact with some since that time. If anyone feels the need to touch base and get their season off on the right foot with questions for our seasoned beekeepers we could host a meeting in April?

If someone has a suggestion for a meeting place and time, I am open to that.

November Meeting

The meeting was a perfect setting for our association to gain momentum for bringing the area beekeepers together to share ideas swap stories and gain more of a prospective of how to become better beekeepers.

The group was represented by seasoned beekeepers as well novice ones; attendees represented our Southern Aroostook County to Fort Kent and points north.

The groups discussion centered around a number of topics from treating, feeding, wintering colonies and success stories. A lot of  questions asked, with great responses from our seasoned beekeepers providing us more insight and awareness.

A special thank you to the University of ME at UMPI for allowing us to utilize a room on campus, enabling the meeting to be centralized for those attending.

Thank you to all that were able to attend and bringing snacks and look forward to seeing you all again.

Best regards,

Melinda King
